Wi-Fi Access and Device Registration
Wi-Fi Networks
- AlvernoEMP – For faculty and staff
- AlvernoSTU – For students
- AlvernoGUEST – For guests and visitors
AlvernoEMP and AlvernoSTU
These secured networks provide access to internal “on-campus” resources and allow for continuous connection (no need to reconnect every 4 hours). To use these networks:
- You must register your personal wireless device via the My Devices Portal (see below)
- Upon connecting for the first time, you'll be prompted for your Alverno username and password
- After that, you should remain connected unless:
- Your password changes
- You manually forget the network
- Your device registration expires
AlvernoGUEST
For guests and temporary visitors:
- Requires a guest wireless account (username and password)
- Prompts for login every time you connect
- Times out after 4 hours of connected time, regardless of activity
- Provides internet access only — no access to internal resources like shared drives
- Not secure or encrypted; network bandwidth is limited
- Do not process credit card transactions on this network; it may not comply with PCI-DSS 3.2 standards
Registering Your Personal Devices
If you are a student, resident, faculty or staff member, you must register your device to connect to AlvernoEMP or AlvernoSTU. By registering, you agree to comply with Alverno's Technology Use Policy.
Use the My Devices Portal
- Visit the My Devices Portal at http://mydevices.alverno.edu/
- Log in with your Alverno network username and password
- Enter your device name, wi-fi/MAC address, and a device description
- If you need help finding your MAC address, refer to this guide: Determining Your MAC Address
- Once registered:
- Your device status will show as “pending” (this is normal and will not change)
- Wait a few minutes before trying to connect
- You won't need to register again unless your device info or password changes
Note: AlvernoGUEST does not require registration, but does require login credentials.
