Global Studies
With a major in global studies and international affairs, you'll learn how to work across cultures and continents to create positive change in our global community.
In this fascinating interdisciplinary major, you?ll explore world language, economics, history and political science. Then you'll have the opportunity to expand your perspective through an
immersive experience in another culture, either abroad or in the United States.
Whether you dream of filling up your passport or using your cross-cultural knowledge and skills close to home, our versatile program will take you far.
In the classroom
You'll explore global studies, the economic environment, American and comparative politics, civilizations and cultures from around the world, world geography, the United Nations and more. You
can customize the major to your interests by taking either four courses in a foreign language or four courses in research methods to earn a specialization in data science. Or
you can do a mix of both topics.
You’ll thrive in Alverno’s small classes with dedicated faculty mentors and strong relationships with peers. You will develop the skills to make
a lasting impact on the globe. And, through Alverno’s 8 Abilities, you will develop a strong ethical and moral code, and you’ll practice the ability to adapt to your
circumstances.
Beyond the classroom
All global studies students have the opportunity to participate in a four-day American Model United Nations education simulation in Chicago. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in an immersion experience in another culture through our summer or semester-long study abroad programs.
You’ll complete at least one internship, creating a valuable opportunity to build your resume while applying the skills and knowledge you learn in the classroom to the real world. Alverno’s Career Studio, which is connected to more than 2,000 partner sites, can help you find the right internship for you.

I have learned to work together and share ideas with others in order to get things done. I especially enjoyed the Model United Nations simulation where many schools represent different countries and work together to find solutions to world issues.
