DEMSN Admission Requirements

Applicants to the Direct Entry MSN Program must hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing from a regionally accredited college or university approved by the U.S Department of Education (or an international equivalent).

Applicants must provide:

  • A completed online application
  • Official transcripts of all previous college work; cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred
  • Personal Statement (optional but recommended)
  • Letter(s) of recommendation from prior faculty or other qualified professional(s) (optional but recommended)
  • Non-U.S. applicants: minimum TOEFL score of 550. Non-U.S. applicants must provide transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. An official evaluation of foreign credentials will be required for international transcripts.

Admissions decisions are based on a holistic evaluation of each applicant’s qualifications and materials.

 

Prerequisite Courses

Students need a foundation of science and mathematics knowledge in order to succeed in the DEMSN program. The following prerequisites must be completed with a grade of “C” or better at the undergraduate or graduate level of education within seven years of entry to the program:

  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Chemistry or Biochemistry
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology (with a lab component)
  • Microbiology (with a lab component)
  • Statistics Prerequisite: Prior completion of an approved undergraduate or graduate level inferential statistics course with a grade of “C” or better within 5 years of entry to the program

Prospective students may apply before completing all prerequisites, but all prerequisite courses must be completed before starting the program. Alverno College offers students the opportunity to complete all prerequisites online in as few as eight weeks.
