Media Esser, PhD, NNP-BC, APRN, CWCN

Assistant Professor of Nursing, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program Chair

Media Esser is an assistant professor of nursing and the program chair for Alverno’s neonatal nurse practitioner program, which she helped develop.

In her role at the college, Esser helps provide mentorship and oversight of capstone project completion for graduate students from all programs. She also teaches a number of courses including neonatal nurse practitioner courses, nursing research and scholarship, advanced practice roles and nursing theory, pharmacology, and advanced critical care neonatology.

Esser has over 13 years of experience as a neonatal nurse practitioner. In addition to her role at Alverno, she currently works as a neonatal nurse practitioner nurse scientist for Bellin Health in Green Bay, Wis., as part of a Level II NICU team. Prior to that, she worked for Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and Children’s Wisconsin, attending high-risk deliveries, developing daily care plans, prescribing therapies, and managing high-risk infants with a family-centered approach.

Esser earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Alverno College and her Master of Science in Nursing from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y. She earned a PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. She’s a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Midwest Nursing Research Society, the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Society, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses.
