Where music meets health
Do you want to use music to make a difference in someone’s life? Consider a degree from one of the oldest accredited Music Therapy programs in the country. Alverno College, a pioneer in music therapy for nearly 70 years, continues to be a leader in this growing and rewarding field.
As a Music Therapy major, you’ll learn how to use music intentionally and effectively to unlock your clients’ potential, improving their quality of life. Working closely with faculty who are board-certified, practicing music therapists who are leaders in the field, you’ll benefit from their deep expertise and industry connections.
Why Music Therapy?
Modern music neuroscience has increased knowledge of music and the brain, its effects, and its potentials for healing. Music therapy can help people with dementia access memories and form new ones, redirect awareness of pain, improve gait and mobility in those with Parkinson’s disease, alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, and reduce the time an infant spends in a neonatal ICU.
Graduates have an almost 100 percent pass rate on the national board certification exam, and 100 percent are employed within three months of graduation. Alverno’s abilities-based curriculum will help you polish your communication, leadership and problem-solving skills, strengths that will serve you well when you’re advocating on behalf of a client.
Thanks to Alverno’s location in Wisconsin’s biggest city and long history of excellence in the music therapy field, you’ll have easy access to fantastic clinical opportunities working alongside local board-certified music therapists. Our faculty can help you find the best opportunities to fit your personal and professional goals.
Alverno’s program ensures that you’re receiving the rigorous training you need to be a confident professional with a well-rounded view of how to apply music therapy with a variety of populations. In addition to off-site clinical settings, Alverno’s Music Therapy Clinic can give you practice working with clients on campus. All of this will prepare you for your final six-month internship with the population of your choice.
