For more than 40 years, Alverno College has led the way in competency-based curriculum design and the assessment-as-learning approach to education. Our curriculum requires all students to demonstrate proficiency in eight abilities across their disciplines critical to the worlds of work, family, and civic community. Alverno educators have been called upon to work directly with institutions to ensure a seamless transition to this learning model. Working with Alverno faculty and staff who have a wide range of expertise, this workshop facilitates faculty and administrators as they design curricula and performance assessments that develop competencies.
This comprehensive, hands-on workshop will prepare education leaders like you to understand and explore learning outcomes, competency-based education, student-assessment-as-learning, and institutional assessment while learning directly from Alverno College–a global leader. Workshop attendees will join peers, including faculty, administrators, assessment professionals, and colleagues from around the U.S. and the world, to walk away with a deep, practical understanding of how to:
* Ensure Student Learning and Engagement: Consider the critical questions about educational principles while working to ensure meaningful outcomes and experience for students.
* Design Institutional Strategies: Effectively align institutional/program/course outcomes, develop authentic assessment strategies, and build systemic support.
* Develop an Action Plan: Discuss practical approaches to put your unique curriculum into practice.
Participants can choose to attend a three-day workshop that starts June 1 and ends on June 3. Or they can choose a five-day workshop that ends on June 5. You can see more information about the workshops on the schedule page.
Alverno College is now offering a two-day consulting session to past participants of our annual Summer Assessment Workshop. Experienced Alverno faculty will meet with returning individuals or teams to continue their work on competencies, outcomes, assessment and feedback. This new offering will be held June 4-5. It includes morning refreshments, lunch and afternoon snacks.
