What can you do with a professional communication degree?
Our graduates work in advertising, community advocacy, corporate communication, creative arts, education, fundraising, graphic design, journalism, marketing, media production, nonprofit management, politics, public relations, special events planning, radio, training, writing, and editing.
Professional communicators continually seek ways to learn more about the dynamic, complex nature of communication and expand their repertoire of speaking, writing, reading, listening, and producing media using new technologies. Internships are an important route toward developing your professional communication identity. Internship placements are available in large corporations, small businesses, and nonprofit agencies. Our students have interned with the marketing department of the Milwaukee Brewers, on major political campaigns, for local and statewide news outlets, in nonprofit event planning, and in photography studios. Interns see the world of professional communication as a dynamic place for a rewarding career. For more information, contact the Internship Office.
Studying professional communication requires students to think about our changing world. You’ll have many opportunities to study abroad, including short-term excursions or semester and full-year programs in places like China, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Tanzania. For more information, contact the Career Education Center and the International and Intercultural Center.
Belonging to a student organization allows you to use what you’re learning in the classroom while developing leadership skills, practicing effective team-building, and forging friendships that can last a lifetime. Whatever your passion, chances are there’s a student organization that allows you to pursue that interest with other like-minded individuals—whether it’s networking, photography, design, or writing. If there isn’t a group that matches your interest, consider starting one!
