Women and Gender Studies Major and Support Outcomes

STATEMENT OF REQUIRED LEARNING FOR A MAJOR IN WOMEN’S AND GENDER STUDIES

 An Alverno College graduate with a major in women’s and gender studies has demonstrated the ability:

 to critically analyze and engage through integration of interdisciplinary perspectives and by imagining her roles as a contributor to the development of the community around her;

to analyze systemic systems of prejudice and privilege as well as the influence of organizations and communities, and to identify and implement creative strategies for conceptualizing change;

to employ theory to create opportunities for personal and political efficacy through study of multiple disciplines, recognizing the value of aesthetic and cultural expressions and engaging multiple perspectives of individuals and groups across different societies and communities; and

to collaborate with others, articulate a personal leadership style, and interact and communicate in a variety of professional settings to foster development of ideas, solve and resolve issues, and effectively engage individuals and/or organizations in working for change.

 An Alverno College graduate with a support area in women’s and gender studies has demonstrated the ability:
