Spanish for the Professions
|
¿Hablas español? Spanish is the second most common language in the United States and is spoken by millions worldwide. With a major in Spanish for the professions, you’ll gain practical skills that will serve you well throughout your career, opening doors near and far.
Alverno is the first college in Wisconsin to be named a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and is located near Milwaukee’s predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods, making it the perfect place to deepen your knowledge of the Spanish language. You’ll build a strong foundation for professional use of the language, developing the advanced linguistic skills and cultural knowledge necessary to work in our increasingly global community. This program makes an excellent second major, especially if you’re interested in business, health care or global studies.
Students who are native speakers of Spanish, have been raised in a Spanish-speaking home or have had prior Spanish instruction can receive up to 18 credits toward this major by taking a placement test in our Assessment and Outreach Center.

“I chose the Spanish for the professions major because I’m passionate about global issues, especially immigration, and about giving back to my community. Alverno has definitely helped me grow my networking skills and has given me confidence in myself.”
