Alverno College Will Hold Its 170th Commencement on May 17
Alverno College will hold its 170th commencement on May 17 as 266 bachelor’s and associate degrees, 243 master’s degrees, 17 educational specialist degrees and 39 doctoral degrees will be awarded in the Pitman Theatre. The undergraduate ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. and the graduate ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.
Commencement activities for undergraduates will begin on Thursday, May 15 with a Graduation Mass and blessing of the graduates at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Mary Immaculate. A celebratory reception will be held on Friday, May 16 from 5-6 p.m. in La Verna Commons. The undergraduate commencement coordinator of ceremony will be Drea McAlister, who will receive a Bachelor of Arts in Art Therapy with a minor in Community Engagement and Activism. The undergraduate invocation will be given by Elena Pasbrig, who will receive a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Creative Studies in Writing. The student address, “Rooted in Resilience: Sown in Silence, Rising in Strength,” will be given by Cassandra Casas, who will receive a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies and International Affairs, with minors in Elective Studies, Community Engagement and Activism, and Public Health. The graduate commencement invocation will be given by Vicki Johnson, who will receive a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership. The graduate student address, “Born into Survival, Living in Purpose,” will be given by Kempton R. Freeman, who will receive a Doctor of Education in K-12 Leadership and Superintendency. McAlister, Pasbrig, and Casas are from Milwaukee. Johnson is from Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Freeman lives in Appleton, Wis.
