Alverno College has appointed Antonio Rivas as the director of Athletics, Theresa Barry, interim dean of students, announced Monday.
Rivas, who comes to Alverno with eight years of collegiate athletics experience, begins his tenure after serving as the assistant director of Athletics for Compliance and Academic Success at Dominican University in Chicago.
“It is an honor to be able to lead Alverno’s athletics program,” Rivas stated. “I was truly impressed by the overwhelming support and spirit this community has for our athletic department. A huge thank you to President (Christy) Brown, Theresa Barry, and the entire search committee for entrusting me with such a great opportunity. I am excited to get to work and provide a positive student-athlete experience.”

He also oversaw the hall of fame and student athlete awards ceremony. In his most recent role, Rivas was responsible for compliance and eligibility within the department and provided oversight on the department's academic support and department graduate assistants.
"We are thrilled to have Antonio on the Alverno team," Barry said. "His approach to building a strong team and working with our student athletes and coaches align perfectly with Alverno's mission."
