Celebrate the 22nd anniversary of Community Day and the 50th anniversary of Alverno's abilities-based education. Weekday undergraduate classes are canceled from 8am to 4pm to allow the Alverno community to come together and learn and grow with each other.
Our goal is 300+ people serving, learning and building community at on-campus activities and sites. Sites and descriptions are listed below and after browsing you can follow the register link below to sign up and to secure a space at a site. Lunch and a FREE T-SHIRT will be provided.

8:00 a.m. Check-in and T-shirts in the Commons
8:30 a.m. Welcome and Opening
9:15 a.m. Community building activities
11:15 a.m. Group photo in the Rotunda
11:30 a.m. Lunch (a brief and optional St. Francis Prayer Service will also be held during the lunch hour)
12:30 p.m. Service projects (participants must pre-register for the activity of their choice)
2:30 p.m. Closing ceremony and self-assessment

After registration, you will receive a general confirmation, but you will receive an e-mail with more specific information about your site as Community Day approaches.
Sites that still have openings:
Zeidler Center Conversations: Learn about the art of facilitating difficult conversations with the Zeidler Group. Participants will learn about the history, philosophy, and tools used to build community despite personal differences and receive an overview of the facilitation training Zeidler Group offers to the Milwaukee community.
ACLU Discussion: Participate in an engaging and interactive dialogue about why your vote matters and voting rights. Led by a representative from the American Civil Liberties Union.
Community Boards: Learn from dynamic alums and community leaders about working on and with boards of non-profit community organizations.
Sisters, "Her"Story, and Social: Meet members of the School Sisters of St. Francis, the religious order that founded Alverno College! Learn about their stories and take a brief campus tour of important sites related to their history. Get social with the Sisters and enjoy getting to know them!
Communication Ability - Games: Explore the vital Communication Ability through various word and communication-based board/card games. Games provide incredible opportunities to have fun and build community at the same time.
Knitting/crocheting hats (must know how to knit/crochet): Please bring your own needles or hooks. Yarn provided. Hats will be donated to several different organizations such as #HatNotHate and the winter kits for people experiencing homelessness.
Blanket making for Ronald McDonald House (must purchase 4 yards of fabric): Bring 4-8 yards of fabric and scissors to make no-sew blankets. Instructions and guidance provided. One blanket requires 4 yards (2 sided blankets, 2 yards of fleece per side).
Random Acts of Kindness Art Projects: Make care squares, found hearts and other random acts of crafting kindness. All supplies and instruction provided.
Build a Little Free Library: Construct and paint an Alverno Little Free Library that will be placed on 39th Street.
Jackson Park Clean-up (must bring your own bike): Participants will ride bikes to Jackson Park for a clean-up of the park and stream. Jackson Park is one of Milwaukee’s largest parks and it is right in the Alverno neighborhood. Near-campus site. Dress to be outside and in clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
Early Learning Center (Site 2): Assist the ELC with a window cleaning project (may include outdoor work).
MCFI Music & Art Activities: Be a support to disabled adults from the Brain Health program from the Milwaukee Center for Indpendence (MCFI) in sessions organized and led by Alverno's own music and art therapy students. Volunteers will be paired with an MCFI guest for the program. No experience necessary, just an open mind and open heart. Note: this project will take place from 11:30am-1:30pm, participants will still get lunch.
