Cameron Overton is an assistant professor of social work and program director for Alverno’s social work department. He designs innovative courses that respond to today’s social challenges, teaching topics such as substance use treatment, mental health, criminal justice reform, grassroots organizing and social work toward abolition. His work focuses on reimagining how the field can meet the current moment while preparing students for justice-centered practice.
Cameron brings more than a decade of professional experience, most recently serving as Drug Treatment Court coordinator for Milwaukee County. He has also worked with the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division, La Causa Inc., and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services. He earned his BA from UW–Madison, his MSW from UW–Milwaukee and his Doctorate of Social Work from the University of St. Thomas. He serves as executive pastor at Zao MKE Church and is active in national and local social work organizations.
