Alverno College Offers Increasingly Rare Opportunity to Hear a Holocaust Survivor Speak

In an increasingly rare opportunity to hear the first-hand accounts of Holocaust survivors, Alverno College will hold its 17th annual Holocaust Remembrance Service, the largest non-Jewish gathering of this type in the Midwest. The service remembers the six million Jews who perished, and honors those who resisted and survived. This year's speaker is Holocaust survivor Estelle Glaser Laughlin, who along with her sister and mother survived the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, an extermination camp, and two slave labor camps. The service will take place on Wednesday, April 11, from noon-1 p.m. in the Pitman Theatre. A talk back and book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Glaser Laughlin was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1929. She spent time in the Majdanek extermination camp and slave labor camps in Skarzysko and Czestochowa before being liberated by Russian forces in January 1945. Her memoir, “Transcending Darkness: A Girl's Journey Out of the Holocaust,” was published in November 2012. To learn more about Glaser Laughlin's story, please visit http://bit.ly/2FDxEsX.
