Alverno College, a leader in health care education for more than 100 years, is proud to offer a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program. Physician assistants (PAs) practice in every setting and all medical fields as providers who diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, and prescribe medications.
The demand for physician assistants is high. In fact, the profession is ranked No. 1 on the “Best Health Care Jobs List” and No. 3 on the “Best 100 Jobs List,” according to 2019 rankings by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, the PA field is the fifth-fastest-growing field in the United States, with a federal forecast of nearly 40,000 new PA jobs being added to the workforce by 2026.
The mission of the Alverno College Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Program is to develop practitioners who are prepared for leadership and lifelong learning and who succeed both academically and professionally.
This program develops Physician Assistants who have a global perspective – one of Alverno’s hallmark eight Abilities – which cultivates globally competent individuals who have an understanding and respect for the economic, social and biological interdependence of global life and who are prepared to practice and serve diverse populations.
It thus employs an ability-based and problem-based curriculum designed to foster leadership and service in the community.
Alverno College Physician Assistant Program has applied for Accreditation-Provisional status from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Alverno College anticipates matriculating its first class in January, 2021 pending achieving Accreditation-Provisional status at the September, 2020 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation-Provisional status is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appears to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first cohort of students.
Alverno College Physician Assistant Program will not commence in the event that provisional
accreditation status is not received. Students are accepted on a conditional basis.
In the event of non-accreditation a refund of applicable tuition deposits will be
returned to those students. CASPA application fees cannot be refunded to applicants
by Alverno College or CASPA.
