Students are strongly discouraged from coming to campus. This will help to minimize the potential for transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

How is Alverno handling business operations?

  • To reduce the risk of inadvertent virus transmission on campus, and because many employees are working through unprecedented challenges, the college is offering remote work options for many staff members. Campus business operations remain open, but plans are in place for employees to maintain an appropriately safe distance from each other.

What technology support do I have for working from home?

  • Please visit the Intranet for instructions on working from home.

How should employees report an absence during the coronavirus outbreak?

  • As usual, employees are expected to call their supervisor prior to their scheduled start time if they are going to be absent because of illness. Once the supervisor is contacted regarding the illness-related absence, the employee must contact Human Resources for appropriate follow-up. HR will review the specific circumstances and discuss options regarding paid time off and/or working remotely. HR information is available on Alverno's Intranet.

What if an employee recently returned from visiting a country designated as having high risk for COVID-19 transmission or has been exposed to someone ill with the virus?

  • Follow the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control for self-isolating. As a resource, contact Human Resources if you feel you’ve been exposed. Upon consulting with the offices of Counseling and Health Services, Human Resources may require that the employee wait the maximum incubation period of the virus, thought to be 14 days, before returning to the campus. More. HR information is available on Alverno's Intranet.

 How can I access campus?

  • All doors are locked for the safety and security of our campus. Students can access the buildings from the Founders Hall Porch and Read Center Rotunda entrance Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-5p.m. Employees can enter any card access door with their ID

Only employees working on campus and students requiring Internet/computers for educational purposes are allowed in campus buildings.

What if I need to reach a large group of faculty and/or staff?

Is the Early Learning Center open?

  • The Early Learning Center remains open.

Are there on-campus dining options for faculty and staff working on campus?

  • The Inferno Cafe, Hudson's and the A-Store will be closed from March 21-April 14. Vending machine options are available, but employees are encouraged to bring food from home.

What if I’m feeling stressed out and need to talk to someone?

  • The Employee Assistance Program offers help and resources free of charge to employees and has confidentiality rules to the limits of the law.

The CDC recommends the following measures to help prevent the spread of all respiratory viruses:

  • Avoid close contact with those who are ill
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue into the garbage
  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces using household cleaning spray or wipes
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing

Please visit the CDC website for the most up-to-date information on COVID-19.
