History of the Civility Project

The Civility Project was born out of President Obama’s initiative to increase interfaith cooperation and community service in order to build understanding between different communities and contribute to the common good. In March 2011 the White House launched its Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge and called for campus communities to take the lead through the creation of interfaith initiatives at schools throughout the United States.

Alverno College responded by creating the Civility Project, which was introduced to the student body and community at large at a 9/11 Remembrance Service on September 5, 2011.
