Spanish Language Assessments

Spanish/English Bilingual Proficiency Assessment  (BIL 100)

The completed BIL 100 assessment is a requirement for admission into the Bilingual Education (BIL) minor.  Students are not required to have received formal training in Spanish or English grammar to take the assessment; however, those who plan to enroll in BIL courses or complete the BIL minor must demonstrate a near-native fluency in written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish to ensure their preparedness for the coursework. 

Spanish Language Placement Assessment (SLC 100)

The completed SLC 100 assessment is a prerequisite for students with prior learning in Spanish and is a requirement for placement into the Spanish Language and Cultures (SLC) program.  Students who have received any type of formal or informal training in Spanish must take the assessment.  This includes living in a Spanish-speaking country, speaking Spanish at home, studying Spanish at the elementary, secondary or post-secondary level, and so on.  The purpose of the assessment is to evaluate a student’s knowledge of the Spanish language. Based on their performance on this assessment, students may receive credit for beginning or intermediate level SLC courses. 

Spanish/English Healthcare Interpretation Bilingual Proficiency Assessment (SPI 100)

The completed SPI 100 assessment is a requirement for admission into the Spanish/English Healthcare Interpretation (SPI) program.  Students are not required to have received formal training in Spanish or English grammar to take the assessment; however, those who plan to enroll in SPI courses or complete the SPI minor must demonstrate a near-native fluency in written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish to ensure their preparedness for the coursework.
