Spirit of Alverno
The recipient of this award demonstrates enthusiasm, dedication, and an esprit d ‘corps in service and support of the college.
Pat and her family have long been involved with advancing the mission of Alverno. She grew up across the street.
Her mother’s early teaching and devotion to her Catholic faith have remained an important part of Pat’s life. When she was a student at Alverno, her parents were key volunteers, helping to raise much needed funds. Pat’s mother eventually enrolled in Averno to meet the new requirements for teachers. Working full time and raising a large family, she was able to graduate cum laude. Pat concedes her mother is her inspiration, and thus the reason for the Anthony and Kathryn Niggemann Education Scholarship Fund. Established by Pat and her husband Lee, its purpose is to carry on the values and principles her mother held so close: hard work, faith in all you do, family and service.
Like her mother, Pat immersed herself in a life of service, devotion to her faith, family and community. She successfully raised seven children while also maintaining a key position with Hribar Trucking. She has served on numerous committees with the College and served on the Alumnae Association Board of Directors. In 2008 she received the Exemplar Award from Alverno recognizing her generosity over the years.
In 2011, Pat successfully rallied the support of her sister alumnae and led the effort to establish the Class of ’65 Endowment Scholarship Fund. She worked to organize on-going activities that would re-engage her classmates, deepen their affinity and inspire them to contribute to leaving a class legacy in their 50th reunion year.
And now Pat is inspiring other women in her family to attend Alverno. The committee recognized her long history of support for Alverno in choosing her for this award.
