MSN Program Tracks

Today, the world of healthcare and advanced practice nursing is changing faster than ever. You have an opportunity to participate as a leader in meeting the demands of today's population and an expanding global culture.

Open to women and men, we offer three tracks to choose from within our Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track prepares you to work within the whole population, from infants to the elderly. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) track where you will learn how to work collaboratively with other mental health professionals to provide a wide range of services to your patients. The Clinical Nurse Specialist track uses an integrated curriculum focusing on the new demands of the aging population.

Our personal, experiential way of teaching gives you the competitive advantage. Our MSN graduates feel confident in a range of career options from leading change in a healthcare facility, teaching in a variety of settings - including undergraduate, master's and community-based programs - to seeing patients, making clinical decisions and diagnoses, and prescribing medications.

Alverno's MSN degree gives you the power to provide a more advanced level of care to your patients and prepares you to become a leader in your chosen field. You'll have the opportunity for in-depth study of advanced practice nursing within today's complex healthcare systems; the nature of human development in social, cultural and practical or experiential contexts; and in the processes of practice-based inqury. Our program also prepares you for doctoral work.

Throughout the MSN program you will complete practicum hours. They are spread across the duration of the curriculum, which allows you the opportunity to use the skills as you learn about them in the classroom.
