Are you interested in helping a patient do rehabilitation work to regain movement after surgery? Or do you envision yourself working to market a superstar athlete to adoring fans? Alverno’s program in Kinesiology — the study of human movement — is for you. The program offers two options: a pre-physical therapy track for students who want to examine how the body can function better, which is excellent preparation for pursuing a doctoral degree in physical therapy; and a sport management track for students who would like to work in the business side of sports.
Make an impact
Women are underrepresented in these industries, and it can be hard to find your voice in male-dominated fields. Our curriculum is specifically designed to help you build confidence as a female leader. Are you ready?
The skills you need to succeed
Whatever the challenge, Alverno’s abilities-based curriculum will give you an edge because you’ll have mastered skills such as communication, analysis and problem solving — skills that will help you stand out and lead. Our curriculum for the physical therapy track will prepare you for doctoral studies, ensuring you have the clinical knowledge you need to treat people in a variety of settings.
Although the Kinesiology major is new, Alverno’s Nursing and Education programs have long traditions of excellence and deep connections in the community. Those connections will help when it’s time to look for an internship or job. You may also choose to get involved with faculty research, attend a professional conference or join a health-related student organization.
A campus committed to wellness
Alverno takes wellness seriously — so seriously, in fact, that The Daily Beast and Cosmopolitan ranked us as one of the healthiest colleges in the nation (we were also the first campus in Wisconsin to go completely tobacco-free). You’ll find regular fitness and wellness classes and programs, on-site wellness coaching, and many other campus resources. This makes Alverno a terrific place to live and practice wellness, as well as study it.
Internships for the Kinesiology major
Because Alverno is based in Wisconsin’s biggest city, you’ll have easy access to many potential internship and job sites, including hospitals and health care organizations, major corporations, health-related nonprofit organizations, minor and major league sports organizations, and more. Alverno’s Internship Office, which is connected to more than 2,000 partner sites, can help you find the right opportunity to advance your personal and professional goals.
How you can use your degree
Many people think of kinesiologists working directly in health care, but your Kinesiology degree can take you so many places — from government and research positions to wellness programs at Fortune 500 companies and college campuses to executive suites at sports arenas and law firms. In addition to the Kinesiology program being foundational for a physical therapy degree, it’s also excellent preparation for graduate work in public health, medicine or business.
