The International & Intercultural Center (IIC) hosts events every semester to introduce international students to American customs and traditions, inspire Alverno students to study
abroad, allow international students to bond with their host families, and have fun sharing one another’s culture and life.
Annual Events
The IIC organizes many events throughout the year, however some may vary from semester to semester. Listed below are some of our annual events that have remained constant, so be sure to look
forward to the following happenings:
The Study Abroad Fair
International Night
Explore Milwaukee
Travel, Talk and Tea
International Potluck
Welcome to Milwaukee Reception for International Students and Returning Study Abroad Students
Goodbye Reception for Exchange and Degree-seeking International Students
Each of these focuses on encouraging Alverno students to study abroad, welcoming our international students, and welcoming back our returning study abroad students. They also give Alverno and
international students an opportunity to bond and introduce one another.
Host Family Events
The IIC also coordinates seasonal activities for our international students and their host families. Providing opportunities for families to bond with their students not only introduces the
student to American culture and customs, but broadens the cultural perspectives of the host family and teaches them about cross-cultural communication.
Some of the events that we organize include:
Apple Picking
Hay Rides
Movie Nights
Board Game Nights
Bowling
Bonfires
Sporting Events
