Jovita Carranza H'11 in April was named treasurer of the United States and will oversee the U.S. Mint and Bureau of Engraving and Printing. She was a member of President Trump's National Hispanic Advisory Council during the presidential campaign.
A native of Chicago, Carranza began her academic career at Alverno but had to transfer when her career with UPS moved her out of state. She later earned her MBA at the University of Miami and was bestowed the honor of Honorary Alumna of Alverno College in 2011.
Carranza rose to be the highest-ranking Latino at UPS, where she was vice president of air operations. She then served as deputy administrator of the Small Business Administration under President George W. Bush.
Before her current presidential appointment, Carranza served as president and CEO of the JCR Group, a consulting firm she founded that works with global corporations and nonprofits on business development, profit and loss management, operations, logistics, and systems optimization.
In addition to serving on the Alverno College Board of Trustees and chairing Alverno's School of Business Advisory Council, Carranza serves on the boards of numerous organizations, including the National Center for Family Literacy, the National Council of La Raza and the American Cancer Society Corporate Advisory Council, among other civic committees.
