BIOGRAPHY
Joseph Foy is the vice president for Academic Affairs at Alverno College, where he has worked since the spring of 2020. His job entails serving as the college’s chief academic officer, working to implement its strategic plan, and collaborating with the college’s leadership team and faculty.
Prior to coming to Alverno Foy was Dean of the Faculty at Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wis. There he oversaw the academic, budget and personnel management responsibilities for faculty teaching and more than 20 undergraduate, graduate and licensure programs. Reporting directly to the vice president for Academic Affairs and provost, Foy was instrumental in implementing Marian’s strategic plan; identifying and supporting the development of new academic programs; devising student success initiatives; and facilitating collaboration with community and other higher education partners.
Foy’s scholarly interests have led him to co-author several books on pop culture and politics, examining topics like diversity, identity and inclusion; political theory and philosophy; and political behavior and attitudes in film, television, music and consumer culture. He has also given several presentations on these topics. His recent work has focused on the faculty and staff development process and student success in higher education.
Originally from Wyoming, Foy earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from Carroll College in Helena, Mont. He earned both a master’s degree in Comparative Politics and International Relations and a Ph.D. in American Government and Comparative Politics from the University of Notre Dame.
