Dr. Annette Ries is an assistant professor of Nursing in the JoAnn McGrath School of Nursing and Health Professions at Alverno College. She is also currently serving as the Director of Nursing at the COVID-19 Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park. Ries oversees health care staff and was part of the leadership team that created patient care protocols and designed aspects of the facility. She has 21 years of nursing experience and has been teaching since 2009.
Since coming to Alverno, Ries has been involved in the curriculum development and course design for the undergraduate nursing program. She previously served as the simulation coordinator, working with other faculty to create realistic scenarios for the nursing students to work through. This included everything from deciding what medical conditions the simulation would entail, what equipment was available to the students, and the outcomes of their decisions. She even created realistic-looking injuries in order to better train nursing students. Ries has also worked as an emergency room nurse, and taught clinical skills, medication therapy, assessment and critical thinking to nursing and paramedic students.
Ries earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, her Master of Science in Nursing and Nursing Education from University of Phoenix, and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Nursing Leadership from Alverno College. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning.
