11. Sheroes in Popular Culture: Self-Care and the Superwoman Complex
Presenter: Vanessa Hintz, Alverno College and Cornerstone Counseling Services, Inc.
In this session, participants will explore the basic tenets of the “superwoman complex.” They will discuss strong female-identified characters as depicted in popular culture and how their portrayals illustrate the understandings of the “superwoman complex.” Finally, participants will identify and discuss health and wellness unique to women, specifically as they relate to ideas concerning self-care.
12. Wake up and Thrive with Centered Leadership
Presenter: Meg Daly, Meg Daly, LLC
Creating a more “high vibe” life personally and professionally isn’t always as easy as it sounds. The feelings we want to feel, the goals we strive to reach, and the life we desire to create may sometimes feel unattainable. The answers, however, often lie in having the courage to be authentic and vulnerable. Join Meg as she facilitates an experience around the 5 elements of Centered Leadership and how they have the power to produce massive amounts of joy for not only yourself but those you work with... and live with.
13. “I’m Just a Girl”: The Impact of Language on Women
Presenters: Rachel Haos, Beth Monhollen, Ann Romei, Yanelly Villegas, and Brooke Wegner, Alverno College
This session looks at our shared common language and how it either perpetuates outdated perceptions of women, or empowers us to take up space and have an equal voice in society. Participants will discover new ways to use language to find empowerment and learn to identify language that diminishes their worth, their voice or the space they take up in the world. Words have power.
14. The Impact of Trauma on Girls: The Implications for Healing
Presenters: Trina Gandy and Jill Wallace, Alverno students
This workshop will address specific areas of trauma on impoverished and underserved girls and the implications for healing while promoting activism and advocacy. Participants will use data and experiences on trauma related to girls to expand their understanding of how the development of all girls schools are needed to promote, foster and empower.
15. You Have Power, Are You Using It?
Presenter: Lisa Attonito, Women’s Fund of Greater Milwaukee
Often, women see and know what needs to change so there is more equity in society, though they feel powerless in making it happen. Come ready to discuss the power you do have to influence activities, services, programs etc in our community. In this session attendees will use a survey as the framework for discussion that brings light to the power they may already have at their disposal. They will think about philanthropy as a meaningful experience, be challenged and inspired to action.
16. Sex, God and Dismantling a Patriarchy
Presenter: Deborah Lukovich, alinea, LLC
In this session, Deborah brings attention to the need to reconcile what seem like opposing instincts of sexuality and spirituality. Before patriarchy, there were societies where the union of sexuality and spirituality was revered. Sexual violence and continued interest in restricting women's bodies are a dead give-away of the threat the feminine (not women) poses to the dominator model of social organization we refer to as patriarchy. Deborah brings this topic to life by weaving in her own personal experience of how coming into deeper relationship with her feminine through her body and sexuality brought her into intimate connection with the Divine.
17. Emotional Intelligence: A Rising Advantage for Women in Business
Presenter: Andrea Hubbert, Hub+company
Everyone is familiar with "intelligence quotient" (IQ). Most people associate IQ with intelligence and take for granted that it's something you're born with. Emotional intelligence (EI), which is also called emotional quotient, is something quite different. Rather than a skill you're born with, it is something you develop by interaction with the people around you. Participants learn about the five competency pillars of EI and how they relate to women in the workplace.
18. Self Advocacy and Empowerment in The Jungle!
Presenter: Jesse Ross, The Minneapolis Foundation
In this session, participants will learn that empowerment starts with self. In order to truly be able to advocate for oneself, one has to be able to learn more about oneself. This workshop allows you to take some time to think through both the general strengths and weaknesses of you and the others you work with. Is your team missing a vital personality type or do they just need help understanding each other? This session can provide you with tools to create the best teams and supercharge your own leadership journey.
