Transfer and Second Degree Students in Nursing
Commonly asked questions and their answers:
Q. How long will it take me to complete the program?
A. The nursing program at Alverno requires a minimum of 3 1/2 years to complete. Students who are missing sciences or who have not met the math requirement may be looking at a longer time span.
Q. Why won’t my math coursework transfer to Alverno?
A. Math is a general education requirement and must be completed at Alverno. To determine a student’s skill level in math and algebra (as well as reading, writing and computer literacy), all students complete the communication placement assessment. In some cases, a student may assess out of the required math course.
Q. Will my clinicals transfer?
A. No, clinicals from another institution will not transfer to Alverno.
Q. Is there a time limit on science?
A. Yes. Sciences over 7 years old must be retaken. Exceptions may be made if a student uses that knowledge in their current work situation.
Q. Can I transfer directly into clinicals?
A. No. Students must first complete Alverno’s general education requirements and meet all pre-requisite coursework for the nursing program.
Q. What is the required grade point average for the nursing program?

A. At this time, we are not able to consider applicants that have been previously dismissed from another nursing program.
