Telesis Classes Winter/Spring 2013
Pursue your physical wellness goals through classes focused on strengthening and toning the body through tai chi and yoga. Look for additional movement opportunities in Healthful Living.
BEGINNING TAI CHI CHUAN 1
17 Tuesdays, January 29 – May 21
Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient form of Chinese exercise, which consists of a choreographed form of movement performed in a deliberate, but very slow and gentle fashion. This physical art form exercises both the mind and the body together, allowing tension held within the body to be released. The resulting relaxation improves blood circulation and the flow of the vital energy, what the Chinese call “chi,” within the body. Each class session will offer instruction on the individual postures that make up the form. NOTE: students must have prior experience with the long yang style of Taijiquan.

Emphasis on form, alignment and understanding of how the body works are included. The class will use a progressive technique to learning poses at beginning levels and moving to more challenging positions based on skill. Students are encouraged to adapt positions to their individual needs. Using meditations and breathing techniques, the goal is to release stress and become more centered. The class is open to students of all fitness levels. Experience with Hatha Yoga can be helpful but not required.
