Moodle FAQs for Students
Q. What is Moodle?
Moodle is Alverno's Learning Management System (LMS). It is web based and may be used by instructors to provide access to course materials or online activities. Use Moodle to view and print the syllabi for your courses.
Q. What is my Moodle username?
Your Moodle username is the same as your Alverno computer network username.
Q. What is my Moodle password?
Your Moodle password is the same as your Alverno computer network password. Resetting your Alverno computer network password will also reset your Moodle password.
Q. How do I login to Moodle?
Type http://moodle.alverno.edu into the address bar of your Firefox browser and hit Enter. Then click the Login link in the upper right corner of the page and enter your Alverno network username and password. Alverno recommends using the latest version of Firefox as your browser for Moodle. General login directions are available in the Moodle Login Instructions document.
Q. What if I don't have Firefox on my computer?
You can download the most recent version of Firefox here for free. Click the download button and follow the instructions.
Q. Can I use another browser instead of Firefox?
Alverno recommends using the most current version of Firefox for Moodle. Firefox has been tested and found to have the fewest problems when working with Moodle. Other browsers tend to have problems with the layout of some of the pages and may prevent you from completing some activities. If you choose to use a browser other than Firefox please be aware that Alverno staff may not be able to help you with some of the difficulties you will encounter.
Q. How will I know how to use Moodle?
General directions for using Moodle are available in the Moodle Student Quickstart Guide. There will also be training sessions available at the beginning of the semester.
Q. Who can I ask if I have a question about Moodle?
When you are in the Computer Center labs, the lab assistants can answer your Moodle questions. If you are not in the Computer Center you can call a lab assistant at (414) 382-6336 during lab hours or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are in a course in Moodle you can use the Trouble Ticket button to send an email to the helpdesk. The Trouble Ticket button is available in every course and is located towards the bottom of the left column.
