Student Email Update: Thursday, 3/28/13, 9:00 am
Microsoft’s latest report regarding our student email migration states that they “continue to process their backlogs successfully.” They anticipate that all their backlogs will be cleared by today, Thursday, March 28th. We understand that some students’ are able to access their new Office 365 email, and some are not. We will continue to post updates from Microsoft on our website, the Computer Center Facebook page, and the Moodle login page. Students whose email is not accessible should use personal email accounts to communicate with instructors or other students. While they may send messages to their instructors from within Moodle, they won’t be able to view any replies since they can’t access their mailboxes. Again, we appreciate your patience.
Student Email Update: Saturday, 3/30/13, 1:00 p.m.
We have good news and bad news to report today. The good news is that Microsoft’s engineers have found a way to repair student mailboxes! The bad news is that, at the moment, that repair must be done on mailboxes one by one. In addition Microsoft has not found a way to determine exactly which mailboxes did not upgrade to Office 365 correctly. We have already started repairing the broken mailboxes that students have reported to us.
If you cannot log into your Alverno student email, please COMPLETE THIS FORM.
We are continuing to work with Microsoft to find a system-wide repair. At the same time we will start applying the fix to individual mailboxes that are reported as having the problem. This will take some time, so once again we appreciate your patience.

Student Email Update: Tuesday, 4/2/13, 11:00 a.m.
As of this morning we have repaired over 1,000 student mailboxes and most students who have reported a problem are now able to log in. Some students are still reporting login failures and we are rerunning the scripts again on those mailboxes and letting the students know (via the alternate email address they submitted) when to try logging in again.
What to do if you cannot log into your Alverno student email:
If you have not already submitted a problem report, please COMPLETE THIS FORM
If you completed a problem report form sometime between Friday, March 29 and yesterday, April 1:
- Try logging into Alverno email at https://student.alverno.edu. Complete directions can be found here.
- If you cannot login, close your browser and reopen the browser and try a second time. (Your browser may be caching an incorrect page.)
- If you still cannot login, please send an email to helpdesk@alverno.edu with your username and a description of the error you receive.
If you completed a problem report form today (Tuesday, April 2),
- When you get an email at your alternate email address saying that your account has been fixed, try logging into Alverno email at https://student.alverno.edu. Complete directions can be found here.
- If you cannot login, close your browser and reopen the browser and try a second time. (Your browser may be caching an incorrect page.)
- If you still cannot login, please send an email to helpdesk@alverno.edu with your username and a description of the error you receive.
In the meantime, if your Alverno email is still not accessible, and you need to contact an Alverno instructor or student, you can use Moodle messaging to contact them. Follow the steps in this video: http://youtu.be/hQgv-THxx0Y
Please do not complete the form a second time. This will slow down the repair process both for you and for other students.
Thank you.

We are continuing to repair individual student mailboxes and are notifying students via their alternate email address as the repair is made. Student Email Update: Friday, 3/29/13, 12:00 pm
Late yesterday afternoon one of the necessary synchronization processes for the upgrade to Office 365 finally completed. However, we are still waiting for synchronization to complete on Microsoft’s side, and we believe that many students still cannot access their email. We are continuing to work with Microsoft for a resolution.
Many people have asked why this upgrade was scheduled this week. This is a required upgrade from Microsoft and there are two main reasons why we decided to start it the Sunday night before Spring Break. Read more ...
Student Email Update: Thursday, 3/28/13, 2:00 pm
Microsoft’s migration of our student email from their live@edu to Office 365 service is taking longer than anticipated.
We’ve been following up regularly with Microsoft support inquiring about our concerns and, this afternoon, Microsoft is reporting that they’ve recognized our problem is more than just a delay in processing as part of their larger backlog. They now report that there has been a glitch in synchronizing/activating some of our students’ Office 365 email accounts. Our issue has been escalated to the next level of support at Microsoft, and we continue to press all our Microsoft contacts for additional information and a speedy resolution to our issue.

Student Email Update: Wednesday, 4/3/13, 7:00 a.m.
This morning at 6:00 a.m. we began running the Microsoft-recommended fix on all Alverno student mailboxes. The repair process is still running as of 7:00 a.m. It is taking longer to run than our tests indicated yesterday. We will post an update as soon as the process has completed. At the moment we estimate the process will complete approximately at 7:45 a.m.
Student Email Update: Tuesday, 4/2/13, 4:00 p.m.
All Alverno student email will be down for approximately an hour tomorrow morning, Wednesday, April 3, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. No one will be able to log into their Office 365 student email during this time.
Tomorrow morning starting at 6:00 a.m. we will run a Microsoft-recommended fix on all Alverno student mailboxes. This fix will make a local change which will then be pushed to Office 365. (The repairs we have been running on individual mailboxes since last Friday have been made directly to Office 365 rather than locally.) We anticipate that running the fix will take up to an hour. During this time there will be no access to student email.
Our hope is that this will resolve any remaining issues with student email. We will post an update once student email is back up and running tomorrow morning.
Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding during this process.
Thank you.
