Student Organizations

Student organizations are a vital part of the Alverno College community. We have approximately 30 active student organizations that are committed to making a difference, networking, developing skills, fundraising, offering service, planning programs, promoting activism, sharing information and…having FUN!

Take a look at our student organizations. If you are interested in starting a new organization or have questions about the current organizations, contact the Director of Student Life, Brooke Wegner, at 414-382-6317, toll-free at 800-933-3401, or e-mail Brooke Wegner.

Student Involvement Fair
The Student Involvement Fair is held every September and February. All student organizations are invited to the fair in order to provide information and recruit new members. Students are encouraged to attend in order to find out what opportunities are available for campus involvement and to ask any questions they may have. The Student Involvement Fair is a great way to check out what is happening outside of the classroom and to join an organization!

Student Leadership Opportunities
There are multiple leadership opportunities at Alverno. Students are encouraged to get involved, join a student group, and to have a voice on campus. Student Life also provides several different ways to build leadership skills.

MUCAO
Alverno is part of the Milwaukee United Campus Activities Organization (MUCAO), a coalition of college and university students and professional staff involved in programming, leadership development, student organizations, and their activities. MUCAO hosts an annual fall leadership development workshop. For more information, go to http://www.msoe.edu/st_life/mucao/.

Leadershop
Every semester Student Life hosts a leadership seminar for Alverno students. This seminar focuses on further developing skills students use in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Past Leadershops have included sessions on time management, the art of delegation, and how to facilitate an effective meeting. Contact the Brooke Wegner, Director of Student Life, to find out when the next Leadershop will be held!

Orientation Leaders
Students in their sophomore or junior years are recruited to become Orientation Leaders to assist with summer orientation and overnight activities for new students. Orientation Leaders receive a small monetary payment and the opportunity to connect with incoming students. Applications will be accepted February through mid-March. To apply, complete the application (pdf) and return it to Brooke Wegner, Director of Student Life.

Student Leadership Reception
Student Life knows that Alverno student leaders are some of the hardest working people around. The Student Leadership Reception is held every May to recognize and honor student leaders. Organizations are encouraged to apply for Excellence in Leadership Awards as well. Information on these awards can be found in Student Life.

Student Group Council
Student Life sponsors Student Group Council (SGC) on the first Tuesday of every month for leaders of student organizations. A representative from each organization is expected to attend. SGC is a great opportunity for leaders to update each other on their activities, to find opportunities for collaboration, and to keep informed on college policy and news. For the next SGC date and location, contact the Director of Student Life Brooke Wegner.
