For over eight years, Student Services and Academic Affairs have offered Community Day at Alverno College. In 2003, the planning committee restructured the day to include service projects, which focused on nonprofit organizations located on the south-side of Milwaukee. Since then, Alverno students, faculty, and staff have worked with over 30 organizations, volunteering in a variety of service projects from cleaning parks to tutoring school children.
Over the years, we have had an average of 338 participants, with our highest attendance of 415 volunteers in 2005. This event has been extremely successful and has involved 2,396 members of the Alverno community. Thus far, we have contributed 7,188 hours of service, which amounts to over three years of work for a full-time employee!
