Kim Skerven, M.S.W., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Alverno College, and also serves as the Chair of the Psychology Department. Dr. Skerven earned her MSW from the University of New Hampshire, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Marquette University. Dr. Skerven teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses at Alverno, including the Psychology of Women and Gender.
Dr. Skerven is keenly interested in issues related to the psychosocial construction of gender, and the effects of this on individual lives. Dr. Skerven assisted in the development of the Women’s and Gender Studies curriculum at Alverno, and also serves as co-chair for the Feminist Education Advisory Group on campus. Additionally, Dr. Skerven has conducted academic research in the areas of identity, psychosocial oppression, and sexual orientation.
