Licensure
to Master's Specialization
Teach and change lives -
starting with your own
Alverno's co-educational Master
of Arts in Education program is in an every-other-weekend timeframe
(classes meet Friday night and Saturday morning.) The program is
designed to provide a unique, assessment-based learning experience
in the liberal arts tradition. Within that context, the Licensure
to Master’s Specialization was created to answer a growing
need for qualified, dedicated, experienced professional teachers
in the classrooms of our communities. The “every other weekend”
timeframe means current professionals, or those with other commitments,
have the freedom and flexibility to become licensed middle or high
school teachers and earn a Master of Arts degree, all within two
years.
This program was created with the same exacting
standards of Alverno’s critically acclaimed and award-winning,
ability-based curriculum. Building upon the core knowledge gained
from an undergraduate degree program in one of four broad areas
(English language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies),
candidates in Alverno’s Licensure to Master’s Specialization
are provided with a practical, hands-on approach to a new career
in teaching.
• If you have a Bachelor’s degree in
English, mathematics, science, or social studies, you could be a
licensed teacher with your Master’s within two years.
• All coursework is done in Alverno’s distinctive “every
other weekend” timeframe, perfect for working professionals.
• Curriculum is designed so students can take one or two courses
each semester.
• For teachers on emergency credentials, student teaching
can be “on the job.”
