Where is Alverno?

Alverno College is located in a safe, residential neighborhood on the southwest edge of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We’re only a 15-minute drive from downtown Milwaukee.

What are your most popular majors?
Alverno offers over 60 program areas of study. Our most popular majors in Weekday College include nursing, education, business and management related programs, psychology and biology.

How much does it cost to attend Alverno?
Alverno is one of the most affordable independent colleges in Wisconsin. Tuition at Alverno for the 2008-2009 academic year is $17,736 per year ($18,864 for nursing students). Room and board for first-year students for the 2008-2009 academic year is $6,336.

Are scholarships available?
Absolutely! We offer scholarships ranging anywhere from $500 per year to $8,450 per year, with two full-tuition scholarships awarded every year. For more specific information on scholarship amounts and how to apply, see the Financial Aid page.

How many students attend Alverno?
Enrollment for the 2007-08 academic year is 2,654 students. 2,314 students are enrolled in Alverno's weekday and weekend undergraduate programs and 340 students are enrolled in Alverno's graduate programs.

How many students are in a class?
Class size at Alverno is relatively small, consisting of about 20-25 students. You'll never sit in a lecture hall with hundreds of students. The student-to-teacher ratio is approximately 13:1, so you will know your teachers by their first name, and they will know YOU by your first name.

What if I didn't take the ACT or SAT?
Students are required to take the ACT or SAT. Ask your high school guidance counselor when the next test is being offered.

What is the Communication Placement Assessment (CPA)?
Before new students can register for classes at Alverno, all students must complete the CPA. This assessment focuses on your skills in reading, writing, math, algebra, listening and computer literacy. The CPA helps us determine your ability levels in the above areas so we can place you in the appropriate courses.

What if my GPA and ACT scores aren’t very high?
We still encourage you to apply to Alverno. We take a look at each student’s application on an individual basis. You may be asked to take Alverno’s Communication Placement Assessment (CPA) to be used as part of your application criteria.

What are my chances of getting a job after graduation?
Over the past three years, 89% of Alverno undergraduate alumnae were employed nine months after graduation, and 86% of those graduates report that their jobs were directly related to their study at Alverno.

Can I work on campus while attending Alverno?
Of course. Many of our students work on campus while attending Alverno. Students can work in the library, Admissions Office, Center for Instructional Communication, computer lab, child care center and many other areas on campus. Every semester the Financial Aid Office updates a listing of jobs that are available on campus.

What is the Residence Hall like?
About 200 women call Alverno’s Residence Hall “home.” Incoming freshmen will be placed in a double room with a roommate. Single rooms are also available for students who have lived in the Residence Hall for one year. The Residence Hall also houses a coffee house (The Mug), a student activity center, and plenty of lounges that have TVs, VCRs, and full-size kitchens.
