Alverno College, an international leader in nursing and education, offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program designed specifically
for practicing professionals interested in demonstrating the outcomes expected of advanced practice nurses (APNs) at the Master's level. This accredited MSN program, available to women and men, carries on the college's tradition in the professional liberal arts, with Alverno's particular focus on integrative, experiential, and reflective approaches to learning. This program is also open to foreign-trained nurses.

This integrated graduate nursing program is designed for registered nurses interested in becoming clinical nurse specialists in select specialty areas and/or educators who desire to work with patients, staff, and/or students.

The Alverno MSN, a unique ability-based program, uses an every-other-weekend format with classes meeting seven to nine times each semester.
MSN Program Overview
Alverno’s MSN program provides the opportunity for indepth study of nursing practice; the nature of human development and learning in social, cultural and practice contexts; and the processes for practitioner-based inquiry. All students are required to complete advanced nursing science/practice courses, advanced
nursing theory courses, and advanced teaching courses. Alverno's MSN program requires 500 practice hours. These hours are distributed across the curriculum and extend student learning of course and program outcomes. Coursework culminates in practicum study and a capstone
seminar. Full-time candidates can complete the degree in as few as five semesters. Part-time
students who take at least two courses per semester can complete the
degree in as few as seven semesters.
MSN Program Outcomes
The work of the MSN student is guided by five program outcomes that describe what is expected of persons engaged in advanced nursing practice at the master's level. These outcomes, delineated by the faculty of Alverno College, are:
1. Assumes leadership in advancing nursing education and professional nursing practice.
2. Collaborates with, coordinates, and manages personnel and other resources to promote health and foster learning.
3. Communicates effectively to facilitate learning and influence outcomes.
4. Integrates nursing science and learning theory in planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting outcomes.
5. Synthesizes inquiry processes and learning approaches to affect the education and well-being of diverse populations.
Demonstrated competence in each of these outcomes is required for the MSN degree. In-course and external assessments focus on the learner's development and demonstration of these program outcomes.
