of Arts for Teachers and Trainers
Core
Courses
Whatever the focus of the candidate's area of specialization, all
Alverno Master of Arts candidates complete a carefully structured
set of core courses. In these courses the learners develop a solid
theoretical base in frameworks related to development, learning, inquiry
and change. The candidates explore issues or questions in their own
practice and make a presentation of their inquiry to professional
peers and their faculty. Required
Core Courses:
- Education and Human Development 1: Understanding
the Learner (3 cr)
- Education and Human Development 2: The Scholarship
of Teaching (3 cr)
- Educational Inquiry: Research in Action (3 cr)
- The Learning Organization and Social Change*
(3 cr)
- Practicum* (3 cr)
* In the Administrative Leadership program, two practicum specific
to administrative leadership replace these two courses. In the Reading
program, a practicum specific to reading replaces this practicum.
