What differentiates Alverno's Master
of Arts program from other programs?
Alverno has long been a leader in education, and is recognized nationally
and internationally for the faculty's work with ability-based
education and performance-based assessment. The Master of Arts
degree carries on the college's tradition in the liberal arts, with
its particular focus on integrative, experiential and reflective approaches
to learning.
Alverno's Master of Arts, focusing
on teaching, learning and assessment, is designed for teachers in
K-12 schools and in technical and community colleges, and for persons
working in the areas of instructional design, training, and human-resource
or organizational development in business, government and not-for-profit
agencies.
Open to men and women, the courses are available
in Alverno's Weekend College timeframe, which meets every other
weekend during the fall and spring semesters. Courses are offered
in four weekend time slots: Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday
afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Some courses meet on selected weekday
evenings. A special summer schedule offers options for daytime,
evening and weekend classes.
The curriculum consists of a common set of core
courses and courses specific to each specialization. It is designed
so that candidates can complete the degree in two or three years.
It is also possible to complete the program on a "summer only"
basis.
