Credit
for prior learning from life, work, educational and personal/professional
experiences
Alverno is about learning that lasts. We work hard
to ensure that you are prepared for more than finals. We work to
make certain you have the tools to succeed in the real world.
Through a program we call Prior Learning Assessment,
Alverno will work with you to recognize the learning you have already
accomplished through a variety of life, work and educational experiences.
You may earn valuable college credits toward your degree by demonstrating
how your learning experiences meet the requirements of a major.
This program is perfect for adult students and continuing
education students who possess valuable work and life experience.
It is also ideal for traditional age students who may have done
extensive volunteer work, speak a foreign language, or who possess
other potentially relevant experience.
To determine if you may be eligible for college
credit in Alverno College's Prior Learning Assessment program, ask
yourself if you can answer "yes" to one or more of these
statements:
- I participated in paid or volunteer experience
related to an academic discipline
- I participated significantly in, or initiated,
an organization
- I created or developed a product, publication,
artistic work, innovation, or program
- I did systematic reading on my own or with an
organization
- I experienced meaningful travel in the US and/or
abroad
- I communicated successfully in a language other
than English
- I received licenses, professional or artistic
awards, or certificates
- I used theory to understand life and/or professional
experiences
- I completed non-credit classroom experiences:
courses, seminars, workshops, training, or continuing education
programs
If you answered "yes" to one or more of
the above statements, or if you have other significant learning
experiences, Alverno's Prior Learning Assessment program may be
right for you.
