Prior Learning Assessment in Art

Prior learning assessment (PLA) is a process designed for learners who seek college-level credit for what they have learned from experience and who can demonstrate that learning. PLA may be used to demonstrate some but not all program outcomes.

You may be eligible for prior learning assessment related to some studio art courses and some early education field experiences if you can answer yes to some of the following:

  • Used theory and frameworks to understand artmaking and art
  • Completed noncredit classroom experiences (e.g., courses, seminars, workshops, training, or continuing education programs) related to artmaking and art
  • Took coursework relevant to artmaking and art at a nonaccredited college
  • Participated significantly in or initiated an organization
  • Experienced meaningful travel in the United States and/or elsewhere
  • Participated in paid or volunteer experience (hobbies, pastimes) related to artmaking and art
  • Received licenses, professional or artistic awards, or certificates
  • Created/developed a product, publication, artistic work, innovation, or program
  • Participated in any other experience relevant to artmaking and art.
