Alverno student Fatima Al-Sammarraie came to Alverno College as part of the Iraqi Student Project.

Fatima Al-Sammarraie and her family fled to Syria to escape the violence that surrounded them in Iraq. She remembers militants coming into her school, kidnapping a teacher, and forcing the teacher into the trunk of their car. She also witnessed a classmate’s father being shot and killed just outside her school.
