Student News
Alverno students are very busy in all aspects of their lives. Below are just a few of their achievements.

Students from Alverno's history club, Club Clio, decorated a room at the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, incorporating a Victorian theme. The Pabst mansion is a favorite holiday destination and part of Milwaukee's rich history.
Also, eight students from Club Clio have been working as research mentors for West Milwaukee Middle School eighth grade social studies students, helping them find information as they prepare their history projects for National History Day. The middle school students will compete at the regional meet at UWM in March; those winners will head to Madison and then on to the national meet in Washington, DC. THis is the first time in the state that college or university students have served as mentors for National History Day contestants.
The 15th Annual Student Leadership Reception was held on May 1st. In addition to recognizing and celebrating the hard work and accomplishments of all student organizations, five Excellence in Leadership Awards were presented:
- Outstanding Service Award: Wisconsin Women of Asian Ethnicity
- Outstanding Program Award: Circle K International
- Outstanding Organization Award: PAGE Board (Programming Activities and Great Events)
- Outstanding Advisor Award: Pamela Feldkamp, Advisor for Alverno's Residence Hall Association
- Outstanding Student Leader Award: Christine Wieseler, Artourage & Women of Wisdom
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took third place in the Cans Across the Conference race, collecting 2,560 items weighing in at 3,000 pounds. They donated this as well as $175 to The Hunger Task Force. Thanks to all those who donated nonperishable food items!
The Inferno Volleyball Team raised $500 for breast cancer research through the Northern Athletics Conference “Digs for Life” campaign. Again, many thanks to those who donated.

Adedapo has been a fixture on the Milwaukee jazz scene as a performer since the '70s. As an actor and storyteller, she has worked with several theatre companies. She is an education assistant teaching reading, music, theatre and African story telling at Lloyd Street Elementary School and was named Wisconsin Area Music Industry's "Female Vocalist of the Year" in 2001. The luncheon was sponsored by the United States Postal Service.

Students participate in Wisconsin Private School Initiative for Diversity Conference
Five Alverno students attended the Wisconsin Private School Initiative for Diversity Conference at Carroll College, Waukesha, in April. Two of the students presented a program that focused on similarities within each other as a community, and another two put together an activity for participants to learn how commonalities are not always visible on the surface and how differences aren't always what they seem. All five had an opportunity to participate in an interactive diversity program and listen to keynote speakers talk about their experiences with regard to diversity issues.
Math students participate in national conference
Six of Alverno's 20 math majors attended the National Science Foundation-sponsored Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics February 8-10 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Three students awarded Rath Distinguished Scholarship
Alverno students Bryn Dawson, Rebecca Surges and Christine Wieseler were each awarded a $10,000 Rath Distinguished Scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year. Rath scholars demonstrate personal characteristics of leadership, community service and academic excellence.
