Be the Change for a Growing Health Care Need
As a student in Alverno’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, you will learn how to work collaboratively, with other mental health professionals, to provide a wide range of services to your patients.
You will develop advanced clinical judgment through real-world learning and experience. You will learn to use your nursing skills to evaluate and monitor your patient’s overall health while diagnosing, assessing, and treating mental health issues. You will learn how to integrate assessment, pharmacological treatment, and therapy for a wide spectrum of patients – from children, to adolescents, to adults, to older adults.
Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the mental health nurse practitioner certification exam. They will also have the option to pursue an advanced practice nurse prescriber license in Wisconsin.
Completing the program requires 42 credits and 665 practicum hours. In addition, the program includes a Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Certificate, which prepares nurses with MSN degrees to become certified as a MHNP. The Post-Master’s Certificate program is 20 credits and 575 practicum hours.
Alverno College’s scientifically grounded, market-driven Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program makes a positive difference for students, regional health care systems, and especially our communities—where mental health services are critically important and a growing need.
