Economics

  • Bureau of Economic Analysis
From the U.S. Department of Commerce, this site has statistics divided into four sections: National, International, Regional, and Industry. Gives current and historical data and analyses. Find statistical tables covering gross domestic products, personal income, trade and investment. Good for tracking and analysis of economic issues in the U.S.
    http://www.bea.gov/

  • Economic Census
The Economic Census profiles American business every 5 years, from the national to the local level. The 2007 Economic Census is the most recent. It covers most of the U.S. economy in its basic collection of establishment statistics. You will find statistics on minority- and women-owned businesses. You can preview the 2012 Economic Census at the following link: http://www.census.gov/econ/census12/.
    http://www.census.gov/econ/census07/index.html

  • Economic Indicators.gov
The Economics and Statistics Administration at the US Department of Commerce maintains this site. It provides current economic indicators from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the US Census Bureau. The timeliness is critical because indicators, while reflecting business activity, also impact business, financial, and policy decisions. The search page shows the indicators, sources (i.e., the Census Bureau and/or the BEA), the frequency (monthly or quarterly), and the time of release. [The following is copied directly from the CHOICE review online] “A master calendar with release dates for the current year is available on the top menu bar and also linked with each indicator. The page does not contain a standardized data format; thus, the quality of data presentation and export ease varies with each indicator. Some data sets open directly into Microsoft Excel and can be downloaded with ease; others do not.”
