Meet Your Admissions Counselor

Mary Claire Jones

Master of Arts in Education

About Me:

Originally, I’m from the beautiful hills of Southwest Wisconsin. The farm that we lived on is now part of Gov. Dodge State Park. I “found” Alverno twice – attending Alverno on the Weekend as an adult student, and then later, when an Admissions position opened up at just the right time. The latter was more than 20 years ago, and it’s still the right decision for me to be here.

What makes Alverno stand out among other colleges?

As I work with the School of Education faculty to bring in new students, I can hear their care and concern that students will have the right mix of experiences to become effective teachers. As they plan curriculum, their goal is always that students are invigorated through the teaching, discussions, and experiences provided to them.

Why I am passionate about Alverno:

While here as a student, I was always impressed with the interest faculty took in us. When I came back to work here, I was amazed at how many faculty remembered my name.  That’s just a small example, but it is indicative of what you’ll find here: a value for the individual that is genuine.

My advice for potential Alverno students:

Value the challenges here to think critically. Be willing to look at issues from multiple points of view. Be intentional and contemplative about where you are headed academically and in life.

Janet Stikel

Master of Business Administration

Master of Science in Nursing

About Me:

I have a large scope of interests and work experiences, ranging from owning a small business to social work, all of which have included some sort of service. All of these experiences have led me to Alverno, when I can continue pursuing my passion for helping people make a better life for themselves.

What makes Alverno stand out among other colleges?

Alverno offers a unique, individualized approach to education, in which students are encouraged to take on challenges outside of their comfort zones. This allows them to grow more than ever before.

Why I am passionate about Alverno:

I enjoy working with students who have reservations about returning to school. When they first step onto campus, they feel the welcoming atmosphere, and their fears begin to release. I know I am in the right line of work when I see this happen.

My advice for potential Alverno students:

If you are nervous about starting school, take the first step and contact Admissions to find out more. When you take an information-seeking approach, you will find the process less intimidating.

Tamikia Taylor

Master of Science in Community Psychology

About Me:

I am a proud Alverno graduate, because it was within these walls that I experienced unexpected life transitions. I achieved personal development, had a spiritual awakening, and found a priceless pathway to career potential. In addition to my undergraduate experience here at Alverno, I’m currently pursuing my Masters of Science in Community Psychology here. Now, as an Admissions Counselor, I feel privileged to help others realize their full potential too. I couldn’t think of a better opportunity to give back to the institution that has given me so much.

What makes Alverno stand out among other colleges?

Perhaps it’s the level of genuine, collaborative care that our faculty, staff, and administration pour into students. With all of the internal support here, students find success here first, so that they are prepared for professional success later. Students are not treated like a number here; they are treated like future leaders of the world. It’s no wonder that our students are so widely respected in their professional careers.

Why I am passionate about Alverno:

I am excited to bring new students here, because I want them to experience the benefits of a quality education. I am passionate about this institution because of the supportive community. I believe that Alverno students can accomplish anything they desire, thanks to the support they find here.

My advice for potential Alverno students:

Keep a positive outlook, and always seize opportunities to expand your social and professional networks. When you build strong relationships within the Alverno community, you never know what opportunities will become available to you.
