Summer Course Schedule – 2008

 

 

UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

 Post-baccalaureate students who are teaching or preparing to teach

 

 

ED 345 Literacy in Middle Childhood II (2 undergraduate credits)
Students examine the middle level reading/language arts curriculum, focusing on oral language, reading, writing, and literature.  Other components integrated into this program include spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. 

June 26, July 3, 10,17, 22, 24, 4-8 p.m.

 

ED 347 Environmental Education (1 undergraduate credit)
Of primary concern are strategies to incorporate the study of environmental problems across the elementary and secondary curriculum, as well as strategies available to citizens in resolving environmental problems.

July 21 – July 25, M/T/Th/F, July 21 and 25, 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon and July 22 and 24,  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  (Course fee $50.00)

 

ED 353 Arts and Movement in the Elementary Curriculum (3 undergraduate credits) Students make meaningful and effective connections among the arts – music, art, dance, and drama – within the integrated elementary curriculum. 

May 27 – June 12, T/W/Th, 8:00 a.m. – noon   (Course fee $15.00)

 

ED 512 Challenges of a Co-Operating Teacher (1 undergraduate credit) (Prereq: 3 years minimum teaching experience; if willing to serve as a cooperating teacher, tuition is waived.)  This course is designed to acquaint supervising teachers and principals of cooperating schools with the Alverno curriculum, especially as it relates to the preparation of teachers.

July 23– 24, W/Th, 8:00 a.m. – noon

 

HS 308 US History 1607 – 1900 (4 undergraduate credits)
n a chronological overview of American history from colonial times to 1900, the student examines a number of important themes and topics in the growth of the United States.  Fulfills the Wisconsin requirement for certification in early childhood, elementary and secondary education.

June 3 – July 10, T/Th, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. 

 

PCM 448 Conflict for Educators (1 undergraduate credit) Meets WI DPI requirement.

June 19 –July 10, Th, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  No class July 1
