Opening Receptions – October 7th 4-7 pm

This October, during the Friday of Homecoming Alverno hosts an interdisciplinary conference, this year, the event will showcase arts and crafts that have been passed down through generations. Currently, there is a revival of crafting utilizing traditional materials and methods.  In this current economy, craft shows have gained popularity, with people selling handmade products to support themselves and their families.

The Conference is collaborating with the Alumnae Relations Office for Homecoming

IIIII Knock Down Hunger

Knock Down Hunger™ (KDH) is an initiative of Alverno College that exemplifies the continuing generosity of all Alverno College stakeholders via the donation, collection, and ultimate distribution of boxes of cereal to hungry people in the community.

Prior to distribution to local food charities, hundreds and possibly thousands of (full and sealed) boxes of cereal will be assembled to create a large domino like assemblage that when activated will progressively fall and converge to a focal point in the Sister Joel Read Rotunda, with people witnessing and cheering the event.

The event is scheduled to culminate at 12:30, in and about the rotunda, as a part of Homecoming festivities. KDH is also partnered with the “Empty Bowls” initiative and is being combined with the “Cans Across the Conference” food donation traditionally coordinated with the athletic department.

The event will occur during Home Coming and will help to fill all "Empty Bowls" created.
