Undergraduate Commencement

Important Dates

  • February 5, 2013- Student Speaker Information Session, 5:30pm, Alum Hall.  Learn about auditioning for the role of Student Speaker and Coordinator of Ceremony.
  • May 3, 2013 - Grad Finale, 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the Sister Joel Read Center.  This is an open house event.  Come anytime between 2:00pm and 5:30pm.  Plan to spend approximately 20-30 minutes at this event.  This event is mandatory.  Grads not in attendance will be charged a $25 no show fee.
  • April 5, 2013 - Last day to request an additional Pitman Ticket.  Requests are not guaranteed.
  • April 5, 2013 - Last day to request Handicap Ceremony Tickets.
  • April 10, 2013 - Last day to order caps, gowns, and tassels.  Click Here to order.  Apparel will be available for pick up at Grad Finale.
  • May 14, 2013 - Last day to purchase tickets for the Undergraduate Commencement Brunch.
  • May 17, 2013 - Undergraduate Rehearsal, 3:00 p.m., Reiman Gymnasium
  • May 18, 2013 - Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, 2:00 p.m., Pitman Theatre

Cap & Gown

All graduates should order and pay for their cap and gown before April 10.  Orders placed after April 10 will incur a $25 late fee.

Cost:  Approximately $40.  Credit and debit card only.  To request another form of payment, contact 414-382-6115.

Caps, gowns, and tassels will be available for pick up at Grad Finale.  The hood will be received on the day of Commencement.  Try on your gown at Grad Finale. 

Catholic Mass

Catholic Mass is Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel.Celebrate and pray with family, friends, faculty, staff, and fellow graduates in gratitude for what has been and with hope for what will come.  Participation from graduates is greatly desired and much appreciated.  Many opportunities are available.  To participate, contact the Campus Minister at 414-382-6352.  Graduates can attend the mass and the brunch afterwards.

Ceremony Tickets

The Undergraduate Ceremony takes place in Pitman Theatre.  Each graduate will receive 3 tickets to Pitman Theatre.  Seating is assigned. Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves.   

Disruptive guests will be escorted out of the theatre.  Guests with a ticket to Pitman Theatre arriving after the ceremony has begun will be routed to a satellite theater. 

Each graduate will also receive 5 tickets to a satellite theater.  The Sister Joel Read Center, Wehr Hall, and Lampe Hall are satellite theaters.  Guests in these theaters view the commencement ceremony on large screens. 

All guests need a ticket to enter the theaters, including children.

Graduates must pick up their tickets in person at Grad Finale.  Tickets cannot be mailed or picked up by anyone other than the graduate.  Lost tickets will not be replaced.

Handicap Seating

Handicap seating in Pitman Theatre is limited. Contact the Office of Student Affairs at 414-382-6118 to reserve tickets. Tickets must be requested before April 5, 2013.

All guests are required to have a ticket to enter Pitman Theatre. Guests in wheelchairs should enter the Pitman Theatre internal north door entrance between 12:45pm and 1:00pm. Guests arriving after the ceremony has begun will be routed to another theater.

Commencement Brunch

An all-you-can-eat brunch is available for graduates and guests on graduation day.  Graduates receive a complimentary ticket.  Tickets may be purchased in Student Affairs, AF 205, or at the Grad Finale event.  Tickets will not be available after May 14 or on the day of graduation.  Cash or check only.  Please make checks payable to Alverno College.

$6       Child (age 6 and under)

The brunch menu includes egg casseroles, cheesy hash browns, french toast sticks, broccoli and cauliflower salad, pasta salad, fresh fruit, assorted danish, doughnuts, bagels and beverages.

Commencement Keepsake

Hearing Impaired

Disability-related accommodations are available for graduates and/or their guests through the Instructional Services Department. Requests are typically scheduled two months prior to the graduation ceremony. In order to successfully meet your needs and ensure that appropriate accommodations are made, please contact the Coordinator for Disability Services at 414-382-6026.

Marshals

Do you have a relative who is an Alverno College alumnae?  It is an Alverno tradition to have alumnae relatives of the current graduating class participate as marshals in the commencement ceremony, leading the students, faculty and staff, and trustees in and out of Pitman Theatre.  Contact the Alumnae Office, 414-382-6090 or alumnae@alverno.edu before Friday, March 15 if your relative would like to marshal for the commencement ceremony.  Note:  Your relative must have graduated from Alverno College.
