Technology
Technology is an important tool for teaching and
learning at Alverno College. Three departments that support the
use of technology on campus are Academic Computing, The Media Hub,
and Information Management Systems & Reporting (IMSR).
Technology Services
Technology Services provides computing resources for Alverno students. Facilities available
for general instructional use include the Computer Center in the
Teaching, Learning and Technology Center, four computer classrooms
in the Nursing and Liberal Arts Building, and mobile computer carts
and laptops for classroom use. Technology Services also supports
a variety of discipline-specific and residence hall computer labs.
For more information about computer services for students, visit the Technology Services Web site. This site has been created and is maintained by the Technology Services department.
The Media Hub
The Media Hub, a student-centered multimedia
production facility, is also located on the first floor of the Teaching,
Learning and Technology Center. The Media Hub loans laptops, camcorders,
digital cameras and 35mm cameras for student projects. It also provides
a video studio and a lab for creating and editing digital video
and multimedia presentations. A videoconferencing center gives students
the opportunity to take distance learning classes.
Information Management Systems
& Reporting (IMSR)
Information
Management Systems & Reporting is responsible for
the system administration, technical development, implementation,
integration, reporting, and on-going support of Alverno College’s
administrative system (Datatel). IMSR provides students with access
to Interactive Online (IOL),
a web interface to the College’s administrative database.
IOL interacts directly with the administrative system so data is
available immediately upon entry or update. This web interface contains
portions developed by both Datatel and Alverno College.
