Study Abroad
International Study Opportunities

Give your education a global dimension through Alverno's study abroad programs. Alverno offers both longer term and shorter term international study opportunities. Scholarships through the Travelship Program help defray the cost of international study or of attending conferences related to your major.

Alverno has negotiated formal student exchange agreements with six foreign universities. These exchange programs let you spend a semester or a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities.

Student exchange is an attractive option for a number of reasons:

  • Since students retain their continuous enrollment at Alverno, their financial aid formulas and packages remain undisturbed
  • These arrangements eliminate the need for the international transfer of funds
  • Since Alverno knows these partner institutions well, Alverno can provide better advising in terms of credit transfer, application of foreign credits to Alverno degree requirements, etc.

The universities are:

University of Chester, Chester, England
University of Chester enrolls about 4,000 students, and is located in the ancient city of Chester, about 25 miles from Liverpool. The College offers a wide range of programs in education and the liberal arts. Alverno education students may complete one of their required field placements in a local elementary or secondary school. Chester's Web site is http://www.chester.ac.uk.

London Metropolitan University, London, England
London Metropolitan offers students the excitement and diversity of living in one of the world's greatest cities. Kansai Gaidai University Osaka, Japan

Their Web site is http://www.kansaigaidai.ac.jp/

The University of Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico

Spanish is the language of instruction. In addition to its regular courses, the University also operates a well-known institute for the study of Spanish. Students come from around the world to study Spanish at Guanajuato.

Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool, England
Liverpool Hope University offers the student especially strong areas of study in education, the humanities and social sciences, and in biological and environmental sciences. Located in a tree-lined residential area of Liverpool, Liverpool Hope has access to all of the excitement of a major international port city, while retaining a warm and relaxed campus atmosphere. Visit their Web site at http://www.hope.ac.uk.

Institut de Preparation a L'administration et La Gestion, Nice, France
IPAG Nice, as it is usually called, is located on the French Riviera in the beautiful city of Nice. While many of the students at IPAG Nice are French nationals, the college draws students from all over Europe. The primary language of instruction is French, but there are many classes taught in English. Students will have the opportunity to take classes in French language in addition to those in international business.

Direct Enrollment in Foreign Universities
Many students study abroad by enrolling directly in a foreign university for a semester or academic year. Alverno's International & Intercultural Center has established contacts with a number of foreign universities and will assist those students who wish to study at one of these schools. In many cases, Alverno staff members have visited these campuses and met with the administrators who coordinate the international visiting student programs. In recent years, Alverno students have enrolled directly in universities in Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Austria and Spain.
